that one M&M is better than many. And so my world is turned upside-down.
I was lamenting yesterday with my friend that potting-training Aiden has been slightly less desirable than I initially thought being at the mercy of my defiant, nearly 3-year-old child and his unleashed feces would be. I've tried potty charts, stickers on said potty charts, stickers on diapers, retro dino undies (ok, those were more for me, Aiden would have picked Lightning The Queen, as he calls him), as well as treats, namely M&M's--in vast quantities. If Aiden could verbalize his crack-like addiction to the candy-coated morsels it would go a little something like this:
"PUT IT IN MY VEINS!!!!"

my epiphany came in the unlikeliest of forms, a show that Scott doesn't like me to watch for the simple side-effect that it makes me mean... but, gives me good parenting ideas. is the trade-off worth it? Let's just say, should the potty training work, I think Scott will buy me the DVDs for the next federal holiday. The show: Jon & Kate. The understated secret: ONE m&m, not 10. Keep 'em comin' back. It's been GENIUS, Aiden is taking himself to the bathroom now (with a little shakey-shakey of the m&m baggie.)

in regards to poo...
The boy has no problem with #1, but at the mere mention of #2 he becomes constipated for 2 days, 3 if he's on the potty while discussing it. That's how deep the defiance, or psychoses, run.
While talking to my friend she said that I probably needed to find a more motivating factor. m&m's: good for #1, not so much for #2. so I hatched a plan
I was up early this morning, long before Aiden's 6:30 wake-up movie quote; so, when I heard him from the other room talking to himself I decided to go and take advantage of the relative morning silence and Aiden's unfocused attention to spring the idea to him. A Buzz Lightyear toy in exchange for poop--in the appropriate place. The results aren't in yet, but I'm hopeful. He's been restating the proposition all morning "get a buzz lightyear for pooping for potty"
I'll let you know, without taking a picture of it, a la Kate.

Good luck with that! If you want to, I heard a really cool way to get kids to potty train. But then of course, I've never been there, and everyone has their own method...but if you want it, call me.

Also, we need to do breakfast. :)

umm..not sure how to publish this comment because the "word verification" picture isn't there...

oo, there we go

Um, I got addicted to John and Kate and yes, that show does make me mean and it makes me feel like a failure for having problems with my 1 kid! Good luck with the potty training! Have you had him "shoot the cheerios" in the toilet yet?

PS Is this weeks movie quote from Curious George? Love that movie!

We've been working with Isaac also but luckily he's been a lot more willing to put forth the honest effort. We used marshmallows for going peepee and ice cream for poopoos. oh the joy of raising kids. :o) Good luck with Aiden.
