Several months ago, (I remember the post distinctly) I wrote in woe about a little boy who could be successfully potty-trained, but for the pooping. Oh how things have changed! Scott and I started buying 5-packs of Hotwheels cars to keep on the bathroom counter as a little visual incentive for our self-constipating child. It was slow-going at first, no pun intended, but in the last few days Aiden has FULLY grasped the concept of pooping for rewards. The rate at which he poops has increased exponentially. He went from getting a car every other day (cost to us: $2.91/wk) to getting a car 3 times a day (cost to us: $20.37/wk). So now, every time I take him to use the potty, he somehow manages to eek out a poo the size of a pencil eraser and he firmly expects compensation for it. How do you teach a kid that size matters? Guess I'll find him a cheaper vice.

These are the cars Aiden "earned" last week.

The kid's got talent AND some major self control. I say he deserves all the cars he can earn. G Ma

That is so funny! You guys are doing great...maybe eventually you can just faze out the cars...but until then, at least he's poopin...and doin the potty thing! You can subtract the cost for cars from the cost of diapers and the difference is what you are actually forking out for incentive :)

This is a great post! My cousin kept a giant chocolate bar on the bathroom counter and her daughter would get a square if she pooped. I don't think Aiden would go for that... but your post topped my day! Now I understand all the cars each week!
